Grace is a small, vibrant, caring congregation of Lutheran Christians in the Virginia Highland neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia.
Established in 1922, Grace is one of the oldest Lutheran congregations in Georgia. Considered the mother church of Missouri Synod Lutherans in Atlanta, fourteen of the area congregations were born out of Grace's commitment to the mission of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:16-20).
Today, the congregation that is Grace continues to be energized and
directed by its historic commitment to Christ's commission to make disciples. When we're at our best, we're following Jesus, trusting in him and doing what he's given us to do until he comes again: worshiping together, reading the Bible together, praying together, serving together, enouraging one another in our various callings, and sharing with our friends and neighbors the message of God's unconditional, sacrificial, saving love for sinners.
Like many congregations, Sunday is the highlight of our week together. Our worship style is liturgical but not stuffy, blending the best of the church's musical heritage with newer hymns and praise songs. Our worship is Spirit-filled certainly, because each service is centered on the Bible, the inspired, inerrant and inspiring word of God. In our preaching we proclaim Biblical truth and we relate it to life in a way that makes it relevant. Children's sermons and special music enhance the service. Our worship is always Christ-centered, celebrating our relationship with the Savior. Communion is offered on the first and third Sundays of the month and on special occasions.
Before worship on Sundays at 11 am we gather together around
9:30 for a continental breakfast and Bible study. We offer Sunday school for the children, a Christian doctrine class that is taught by the pastor, and a Bible class for adults. After church, the young adults usually get together and go out to eat at one of the restaurants in the neighborhood, if we're not having eating together as an entire congregation in celebration of one occasion or another.
During the week we get together regularly on Wednesday evenings for a meal and a program. On Wednesdays during the season of Advent and Lent we have services of evening prayer in preparation for our celebration of Christmas and Easter. It is good for us to get together during the middle of the week to share a meal and one another's company, as well as the joys and burdens that come with daily life. Christian life is life together, we believe, and we are working to make that spiritual reality a lived one. To that end we have also also formed small groups and meet together to study, pray, share and enjoy one another's company.
We welcome you to visit us in person! We would enjoy getting to
know you and would appreciate the opportunity for you to get to know us. Above all, we would hope that through us you'd come to know the God of grace revealed to us in Jesus Christ. We look forward to the time when you will grace us with your presence.
